Since the beginnings in 1932, in Tokyo, the artisans at Sugahara have applied traditional Japanese design techniques to reveal and express the beauty of glass in ways never before seen, in handcrafted glassware for the tabletop and other uses.

“Glass is alive.” “Communicate with glass.” These expressions may sound funny to you but this is how Sugahara artisans talk about glass. They communicate with glass by observing it and hearing its “voice” every day. As the artisans capture and shape the glass at its key moment – when it is extremely hot liquid – flowing liquid-like forms are created in keeping with the unique consistencies and intensity of the material, and the infinite characteristics of glass are explored and revealed to maximum effect in the end product.

Their goal is glassware that pleases you when you hold it, and that livens up and brings warmth to your table when you entertain your friends and loved ones.

A Legacy of Marble: Fiammetta V

Fiammetta Vanelli, founder of her eponymous brand Fiammetta V, was born into a legacy of Italian marble. Since 1818, the Vanelli family-owned quarry based in Carrara, Italy has provided marble throughout Europe and the world—a quarry once famed for being the source for the work of Michelangelo, Da Vinci and other prominent artists.

After studying museology in Florence, Fiammetta, an enthusiastic patron of the arts, returned to Carrara and brought with her a unique vantage point of instilling stunning design and modern technology into the history of marble.

In 2014, Fiammetta V, a collection of everyday objects, was born. Each piece features a unique silhouette, a minimalist aesthetic, and the striking veins of luxurious marble—all handcrafted by local masters in Carrara, displaying breathtaking artisanship and quality.
